Alfresco is a open-source web content management system with some neat characterstics:

• great, simple & pure interface
• plug-ins can be easily installed
• rights administration and multiple author content contribution
• training possibilities

Although it’s not for free, it could offer some alternatives to costly internal web service platforms like Sharepoint. Alfresco is a document management tool too, so watch out. It can be easily integrated with your Microsoft documents.
